Chris Hughes admits ‘it won’t be long’ until he proposes to girlfriend Annabel Dimmock – and says his mum thought they would get engaged during their recent holiday in the Maldives.

The former Love Island star, 29, has confessed to being a hopeless romantic and says he refuses to judge couples who marry after dating for a short time.

In an exclusive interview, Chris, who has been in a relationship with professional golfer Annabel, 25, since August, said he ‘couldn’t be happier’ and felt ‘extremely settled’ after the couple moved in together at the end of last year.

‘If it’s true, it’s true’: Chris Hughes admits ‘it won’t be long’ until he proposes to girlfriend Annabel Dimmock – and says his mum thought they would get engaged during their recent holiday in the Maldives

Chris told TBEN: ‘It won’t be too long… Even Annabel’s friends messaged her when we were going to the Maldives last month, it was very last minute.

‘Everyone was thinking because of the time of year I was going to come up with. I don’t know if Annabel did…her mother said to her ‘Do you think Chris could propose?’

“I’m a very family oriented person, it’s just the way I was raised and Annabel’s family is the same.

“I’m not one of those people who, if someone gets engaged after a month, doesn’t even think it’s weird or abnormal. I think it’s personal to you and your relationship. I am old before my time; I should have lived in the 50s.

“One thing you can hold on to in those days is that when you met someone, if it was good, you got married even after a few months of dating, you got married. If it’s true, it’s true.

After his high-profile relationship with former Little Mix singer Jesy Nelson, 30, ended in 2020, Chris admits he now feels ‘comfortable’ and in a ‘great place’ with his love life .

He explained: “I feel very good now because I just moved into a new house long before November.

“I am extremely settled in my life and this is where I wanted to be.

“I am now at the age where, stereotypically, people think they should be settled and they should have a home – I don’t think it’s like that anymore, but for me, I’m at comfortable with where I am.

“I’m in a great place with my love life, I’m settled, having fun and that’s the main thing. I really couldn’t be happier.

Chris, who has presented live horse racing coverage with ITV Racing since 2019, believes he has found his perfect match in Annabel, who, as a professional golfer, shares a mutual love of the sport.

He said: ‘I love it. She enjoys when I’m sitting there watching the sport and becoming myself and when I’m obsessed with a Sunderland game.

“I couldn’t live without sport; I know it sounds extreme, but what would the world be without sports? Because she’s a professional golfer, she understands that.

“She’s away for 32 weeks of the year but overseas so I only actually see her for about 20 weeks of the year unless I’m going to visit her.”

Chris becomes even more domesticated for Annabel, learning to operate a washing machine and use a dishwasher for the first time in 29 years.

He said: “You learn a lot about each other when you live together. I’m trying to improve myself a bit… I know how to operate a washing machine now.

“I had never, ever worn one in my life until a month ago. Annabel does 90% of the house stuff so I needed to do my weight, now I make the bed when I’m the last out.

“Now I figured out how to put in the dishwasher tablets and run the washing machine…I feel like it’s a bit more efficient when Annabel does it…”

Chris is Fudge Professional’s newest ambassador and features in the hair brand’s fourth episode of their social media series In The Chair.

He said: “I am a mental health advocate and for me, my hair gives me confidence.

“If I attend a red carpet or an event or present a job, if my hair is not good, I lose all confidence in myself.

“It seems like it’s a lot more acceptable for women to have all these resources for body positivity, but on the men’s side it’s only become much more apparent in the last few years.”

He added, “I talk about how my hair gives me that confidence during my In The Chair session.

“I don’t feel fully dressed or have that level of confidence talking to people if my hair isn’t done. This may sound silly to some people, but it will resonate with others.

“I have pretty versatile hair, over the years I’ve changed colors, gotten a trendy cut, even shaved my hair off at one point. Over the next 12 months, I will definitely do something extravagant with my hair.
