The wife of Mexican drug kingpin El Chapo has been arrested.
According to @tmz_tv, Emma Coronel Aispuro was arrested in Virginia at Dulles International Airport on Monday.
The site also reports Emma “is facing a charge of participating in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin and marijuana for importation to the U.S.”
It’s also reported that the feds claim Emma conspired with other people, in order to help El Chapo escape prison two times, including July of 2015. But he was extradited to the United States before the second attempt, in 2017.
She is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday, according to the New York Post.
Most recently, El Chapo’s daughter Alejandrina Guzman used her company, El Chapo 701, to pack and deliver care boxes full of food, masks, hand soaps and other supplies, named “Chapo’s provisions,” around Guadalajara, according to the New York Post.
The packages were labeled with El Chapo’s image and so are the medical-style face masks the company’s employees wear when they pack and deliver the goods.
As you know, El Chapo was sentenced to life in prison during a hearing in Brooklyn. He was also ordered to surrender $12.6 billion. It is unclear where the money will go. In 2019, El Chapo was convicted for heading a criminal operation that funneled large amounts of heroine and methamphetamine into the United States.
His trial lasted for three months and ended in February of 2019. He did not testify in his own defense, but did have some words at his sentencing.
“Since the government will send me to jail where my name will not ever be heard again, I take this opportunity to say: There was no justice here,” he says.
