The increase in kidnap cases across Nigeria in 2021 is alarming, with bandits, gunmen and other criminals across the country adopting the crime as a means of earning their daily bread.
President Muhammadu Buhari just yesterday (Thursday) threatened to deal with bandits who have been in the news for killings and kidnapping in the past few weeks.
However, the statement of the president which was not taken seriously by bandits led to the abduction of some students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State, in the early hours of Friday.
The peace initiative of the Zamfara state government which has been productive and has seen top bandits leader adopt peace and surrenders their arms and ammunition was unable to stop this incident.
Recall that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, was recently called out for abduction of schoolchildren does not only happen in Nigeria but also in developed countries.
Speaking on Monday night on Channels Television‘s “News Night” programme, Mohammed said the abduction of students was not peculiar to Nigeria alone.
The minister said cases of abduction of schoolchildren have happened in the United States and other developed nations of the world.

1. Armed bandits, on the 14th of February, 2021 abducted 21 passengers travelling from Kontagora to Minna in Niger State.
It was learned that 21 out of 22 passengers were abducted in the attack, which occurred at about 2 pm on Sunday. The bus was said to have been attacked at Yakila village in Rafi local government area of the state.
The victims, however, were released a week after their abduction by bandits in Niger State.
2. On the 17th of February, 2021, armed men suspected to be bandits killed one student and several other students of Government Science College Kagara in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State.
Newspot gathered that the bandits also kidnapped some teachers and their family members residing within the College Staff Quarters.
As at the time of filing this report the students and staff of the government school are yet to be released with the state Governor, Abubakar Bello, on Thursday accusing the Federal Government of neglecting them in the move to secure the release of the students.
3. Boko Haram insurgents on Thursday abducted travellers along Damaturu-Maiduguri Road.
Military sources that spoke on the incident noted that the terrorist group attacked travellers at Garin-Kuturu near Auno in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State at about 1:30 pm.
4. Some students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State were abducted on Friday morning by gunmen suspected to be bandits.
The Zamfara State Government has confirmed the abduction of female students of Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe in Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of the state.
