President-elect Joe Biden received the second dose of the Covid-19 vaccine live on television on Monday at a Delaware hospital.

The future Democratic president received this Monday, live on television, the second dose of Pfizer / BioNTech’s vaccine against Covid in a Delaware hospital.

After receiving the vaccines he tweeted: “I just received the second dose of my COVID-19 vaccine — and just like the first dose, it was safe, quick, and painless. I urge everyone to get vaccinated once it’s your turn. Because only together can we save lives and beat this virus.”

Joe Biden had received the first dose of this vaccine on December 21, an injection also broadcast live on television to encourage the population to do the same.

More than 374,000 people have died from the new coronavirus in the United States and Joe Biden has called the distribution of vaccines organized by the government of outgoing President Donald Trump a “masquerade”.

Only 8.9 million Americans have received the first injection against Covid-19, well below the 20 million initially targeted for the end of 2020. So far some 25.4 million doses have been distributed nationally, which illustrates the logistical challenge of this operation.

Joe Biden, who is due to detail his plan for accelerating the vaccination campaign in the United States on Thursday, said he was in favour of immediate distribution of all available doses, rather than withholding half of the doses for the second injections.

By eliminating the requirement to withhold half of the reserves, authorities hope to boost the number of people who could receive the vaccine quickly.
